Impregnation (to become pregnant) is considered as the first Sanskara or sacred rite. There are 16, Sanskara or sacred rites as per Vedic scriptures. Conception ceremony was carried out on auspicious moment and place. Donation, charity, sacrifice were carried out in the past for bonding of the noble superior soul with the zygote.
After implantation of the fertilized ovum in the endometrium, it grows in to embryo. Embryonic stage extends from 4th to 8th week. For proper growth and development of this embryo, strict diet and lifestyle regimen is to be followed by the pregnant woman. According to the Principle of Similarity, diet or herbs with similar qualities as that of body, when taken increases the similar qualities and elements in the body after digestion. And hence plenty of liquid diet like soup, porridge, fruit juice, buttermilk, sharbat, sar, peya (gruel), yus, milk and coconut water nourishes the diffuse stage (dravarupa) embryo of 1 month.
Morning sickness is a common feature in early pregnancy which disappears with or without treatment by 12-14 weeks of pregnancy. For morning sickness, take dry carbohydrate food like biscuit, toast, dates, dry dates, puffed rice, roasted Bengal gram or jowar bhakri before rising from bed and avoid spicy fatty food. Assurance and advice to move the limbs in cycling fashion for a few minutes before getting out of bed are enough to relieve the symptom. In case of hyperemesis, a piece of potter’s pot (clay pot) is heated and then cooled in water. This process is repeated 4 to 5 times, such water on cooling is given to the pregnant woman. Similarly a pinch of mixture of 1 part rock salt (sendha namak) and 4 parts amala powder prevents hyperemesis. The symptoms of nausea, dry tongue, temperature, fatique, weakness and signs of dehydration are to be quickly treated by hospitalisation
